I bought this tack hammer in 2007 to upholster the small couch I built. It was used for that one job and I doubt I will ever try another. Excellent shape.

This was one of my "oh, that poor tool" purchases. After buying it, I put some time into bringing it up to snuff. Someone had tried to sharpen it, probably on a rock by the look of it. I honed the angle back to 30 degrees, but left over 1/8" of the previous honing at the top. After a few sharpenings, it will eventually be fully removed. It's handle was painted red, as was some of the shank, so I removed it and smoothed the handle with alcohol and fine steel wool. The shank does show evidence of this work. It has a good length with a lot of work left in it. I class it as a Good User.

Paid $22.00
Believe it or not, I purchased this chisel because I liked the wood. It has a missing knot, but it is so small, it doesn't effect the hand-hold, but because of that knot, it has some beautiful dark streaks through it. The blade is on the short side, and although I have to class it as only a Fair User, it is a damned pretty chisel.

I purchased this chisel because of its condition and length. It is very clean for its age, and at 9" in length, it is a rarie. Lapping and honing was done with a 220 and a 600 diamond stone, but that is as far as I got. When I got this far with it, I found a match to it in another drawer. I had already sharpened and cleaned this second one, so it won staying. This is one of the perils of being addicted to these chisels. I am classing this chisel as an Excellent User.

4 small points of pitting on back remain to be lapped out
Usual dings and nicks for a 60-plus year-old tool

Paid $32.00
This chisel was purchased on eBay as it was a 4 patent date version. Before I could complete bringing it up to snuff, I found another 4 dater that was a full 10 1/2". I paid $45 for this one and $72 for the full length one. We men do put great store in our inches. I am classing this one as a Good User, but if I had completed the lapping to remove those four small pit-points on the back, I would class it as a Very Good User.

Paid $19.00
This is one of those purchases made in the hopes a better one comes along. I believe it to be a 4 patent date version, but only the first diget of both date lines exists. There is not much I can say about it as it is what it is; a shorter than prefered 1/4" chisel that no-body beat up, but no-body loved either. I have to class it as a Poor to Fair User.

Stanley No.40 Everlasting Chisel 1/4" - #8
Typical Stanley No.40 chisel of this age
A 4 Patent Dates version with a barely readable 2nd line
1/4" in width
7 1/4" in length overall
This chisel is as it came through my door
Crack in handle, not complete length and holding
Seriously stained working surfaces
Very light pitting on back easily lapped out
A working chisel which, at this point, looks like hell

Paid $18.00
The reason I purchased this chisel is because I got it for 18 bucks, which is far less than its usable worth. It is a sow's ear and will remain as such, but at least it is a usable one. Sharpen it up and it will do what it was intended to do for years to come. What more do you want for 18 bucks. Poor to Fair User.

Work surfaces appear to be pit free
A short working chisel which has been over restored

1/8" Everlasting Chisels are a strange lot. One minute they are a dime-a-dozen and then they dry up for months on end. I purchased it on eBay and it arrived here shapened, cleaned, powder-blasted and refinished. I know I'm bad for wanting clean tools, but this seller makes me look like a museum conservator. I used the chisel for a couple of years, though, so it does what it was intended to do. I would class it as a Poor to Fair User.

Stanley Yankee 41Y Push Drill w/Bits - #10
Has 7 whole bits and one broken from the original 10
Nickel stained in handle's knurling
Spring release for bit-storage works correctly
Paid $28.00
These push drills are an odd lot. I have seen them sell from $30 to $120 with no apparent reason for the spread. This one is in fairly good shape, but has some staining in the knurling on the handle. As it is one tool I haven't attempted to clean, I have no idea if it will disappear with a good soak. It is an Excellent User or a Fair Collector.

General Angle Divider w/Box - #11
This General Angle Divider comes with its original box
The divider is in prestine shape
The box (I always wanted to say this) is tatty with tape
Has original price sticker from C Markus - $14.99
Paid $30.00
I purchased this to use while laying a new hardwood floor in my kitchen. It worked beautifully, and I was so impressed with it, I bought another made by Stanley that better fits in with my Stanley collection. Nice tool in Very Good Collector condition. The box, however, is less than perfect with tape in the usual places.

Stanley No. 624G Eggbeater Drill - #12
One of Stanley's best eggbeaters
Solid drive gear
4" Speed Gear
Hardwood handle
Chuck accepts bits up to 3/8"
No bits for this one
Operates; smooth as butter, smooth as silk, like a newborn babe
Handles need refinishing
Paid $38.00
If you follow my blog you know that I have been to hell and back when dealing with eggbeaters. I ended up spending two years, purchasing four drills, and being dragged to hell and back by a known Miller Falls restorer before I finally got what I wanted, an eggbeater that I only wanted to look at, not use. During this ordeal, Jim, he not knowing I wanted an open drive gear model and me not telling him. As things turned out, I had to use this drill a few times when my ol' Ryobi 18V turned out to be too big to use. Using it blew me away, so now I use the open gear model often. This one actually works better and is much smoother than my open gear, but if you went through the hell I did to get that open gear, this is the one you would be selling too. Excellent, excellent user.

Stanley No.5 Type 11 Plane - #13
A great plane in excellent shape
3 patent dates behind the frog
1" adjustment wheel
Blood and Gore says its a Type 11 made between 1910-1918
There are no cast markings on the level cap
The 2" wide by 7 3/8" long blade has the Victory mark
The chipper is unmarked
Has an unchipped tall knob
Full and unchipped tote
Some small, minor areas of pitting on sole
I would say the original japanning is about 96% intact
Paid $88.00
I bought this plane from Larry and Carole Meeker at patented-antiques.com because it truly was, and is, in great shape. I soaked it in Evapo-Rust, but that is as far as I got with it. While I was waiting to find a bench grinder to use to radius the blade, Jim sold me a Type 7 - 5 1/4, which is the plane type I collect, and threw a radiused blade in with it. Because of that, I never used this plane, and never touched the blade. It is in beautiful shape, though, and I really hate to sell it. It is an Excellent User.
